My translucent recipe
Long story short, I have been looking for a semi clear (translucent) glaze recipe that still has enough flux and glass former to melt abit if i added enough colorant. I stayed up a night looking at many glaze bases and testing a new chemical ( a very expensive one at that) called erbium. it’s about $22 per 100g and i could not find it in any clay store. I had to get it from a pigment distributor. That being said it’s one of the few colorants that, from 7-10% per every 100g batch, can make a clear pink. The issue is colorants such as zinc and tin also double as an opacifier making it very difficult to get a clear pink. This oxide is simple, better at making pink in general, and more efficient at the job. So I made a new pink glaze with the new translucent base.

Both fired at cone 6 in an oxidation atmosphere. No hold. Straight up and down. I am soon ging to test this on a hold between 1600-1500F hold for 1 hour.
For those who are looking i feel like this recipe is something I would have appreciated some time ago when I was looking for A translucent glaze, let alone a Pink that isn’t cloudy.
The first picture is the translucent base While the second picture is the Majin Buu cone 6 glaze with 7, 8.5, and 10% Erbium oxide. although it is difficult to see the pink gets a little darker from 7-10% although a minimum of 8% is needed to get it dark enough to be the pink I enjoy. That being said the recipe needs 8-10% to be pink enough. All test tiles are on b-mix with grog clay. It would probably look way better on porcelain clay.
